British Museum.

British Museum. London, 2010.

One of the mandatory stops when you visit London is the British Museum. The British Museum opened on 1759 and housed both a national museum of antiquities and a national library until the British Library moved to a new site. Also, the British Museum has been criticized for possess artefacts taken from other countries. From the point of view of tourism is an attractive topic because is the most visited UK attraction according to the BBC.

The origins of the British Museum lie in the will of the physician, naturalist and collector, Sir Hans Sloane (1660–1753). Sloane collected more than 71,000 objects which he wanted to be preserved intact after his death. He bequeathed the whole collection to King George II for the nation in return for a payment of £20,000 to his heirs. On 7 June 1753, an Act of Parliament established the British Museum.

It is a point of controversy whether museums should be allowed to possess artefacts taken from other countries, and the British Museum is a notable target for criticism. The Elgin Marbles, Benin Bronzes and the Rosetta Stone are among the most disputed objects in its collections, and organisations have been formed demanding the return of these artefacts to their native countries of Greece, Nigeria and Egypt respectively. The British Museum has refused to return these artefacts, stating that the "restitutionist premise, that whatever was made in a country must return to an original geographical site, would empty both the British Museum and the other great museums of the world".

Today the museum no longer houses collections of natural history, and the books and manuscripts it once held now form part of the independent British Library. The Museum nevertheless preserves its universality in its collections of artefacts representing the cultures of the world, ancient and modern. The original 1753 collection has grown to over thirteen million objects at the British Museum, 70 million at the Natural History Museum and 150 million at the British Library.

The Deep Blue Sea.

'The Deep Blue Sea' is set on the 50s and it starts with the main character (Hester Collyer, wife of a much older High Court judge Sir William Collyer) trying to commit suicide. Then, it goes back to the moment she meets Freddie Page, a young ex RAF pilot whose vitality and desire to live attracts her. With him, she will experience a sexual awakening and a truly passionate love. However, Freddie doesn't love her the same way. This will lead Hester to her suicide attempt.

From my point of view, Freddie Page is not just the bad guy, as people usually picture him. He is a very complicated character. He was in WWII, where he saw his friends die but he survived and he is still caught up in the past. Besides, he is searching for that mix of fear and thrill that he felt when he was in the war and he didn't know if he was going to survive or not. And that is why he decides to leave when he knew of Hester's suicide attempt, because he is trying so hard to enjoy life and to not get attached with someone else feelings that he can't cope with it.

A reason why I love this movie is the capacity of the director (Terence Davies) to capture the emotions of each character. For example, when Hester meets Freddie, Hester is surrounded by dark while all the light is directed to Freddie. This represent how Hester sees Freddie as her salvation to her unhappy marriage. Each scene is perfectly calculated. You have the feeling of watching a play in a theater. The other reason is that I love Rachel Weisz (Hester), Tom hiddleston (Freddie) and the brilliant Simon Russell Beale (William, Hester's husband).

In a nutshell, if you like British movies I would totally recommend this one to you. Some people may think that its pace is slow, but The Deep Blue Sea is totally worth it.

Guns ownership.

While lots of people think that owning weapons is something positive, in my opinion people should not be allowed to possess guns. This is a very discussed topic in the United States because people think that the possession of a gun is a right.

There has been a lot of incidents involving the use of guns. Each day more teenagers commit killings at their high school because it is easy for them to have access to a gun. This would not happen if owning weapons was prohibited. From my point of view, gun ownership should be prohibited because of the popular belief that owning a gun gives you protection is not true, it only makes people make mistakes when they get carried away. Everyone shoul learn that police exist to grant us protection and they should respect that. Also, there are lots of examples of persons with mental illnesses that possessed guns and ended in crimes. Furthermore, there is the possibility that a child playing at home finds a gun and an accident could happen. So, instead of claiming that owning a gun is a right, people should try to solve their problems without arguing violently, and if there isn't a pacific solution, they should trust the authorities.

On conclusion, I do not believe in gun ownership as a night because it only causes more crimes. People must learn that violence is never a solution, owning a gun is not a solution and only leads to accidents and sad endings.

How to get away with murder.

Can we talk about 'How to Get Away with Murder'? With this one, there are three TV series created by Shonda Rhimes succeeding at the moment: Grey's Anatomy, Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder (HTGAWM).

HTGAWM begins with an actual murder; a group of law students fights about what to do with the body. This group works for professor Annalise Keating and together they will resolve crimes while flashes of how they get to commit the murder are shown.

It's truly interesting so far, because it's not the typical lawyers TV serie. Yes, it is about trials but also, and more important, it is about people and why they do what they do. You can't trust anyone because no one nor anything is what it seems.

For all of this, 'How to Get Away with Murder' is highly recommended and if you like refreshing TV series you should not miss it.

Dear Readers,

In this report we will analyse why technological progress has more pros than cons. Even though to describe the way in which technology is affecting society is honestly a complicated process, we can say that this development in science is improving people's life.

From electric toothbrush and electric tin opener to digital camera phone, every day new electronic gadgets are invented and it is impossible not to use them in everyday activities. It is incredible how in a very short period of time technology devices have changed the form of society's life. Almost everyone believe that the most important advancement in technology is in appliances because it helps with housework, specially these days in which everyone spend a lot of time at work.

However, technology also affects teenager's way of expressing themselves on the internet. The best part of going online is that we are connected to everyone which allow us to learn new cultures and languages while making friends. Also, we hace access to all types of information. But it has some disadvantages like becoming absorbed by the internet, forgetting about real life. Not to mention that we never know who is browsing our social network and what they are going to do with the files we share. We can take as an example the actresses whose mobile were hacked and their nudes were leaked on the inernet. Also, it does not matter that we delete a file, it never really disappear.

In order to prevent all these problems with the internet, we would recommend with special interest on teenagers, to learn more about technology before using it or to ask pofessionals for a better practice of it.

On conclusion, although there are different cons to technology, the pros are more important as we have explained before with domestic devices. Besides, using internet as a tool of work or to have fun is positive if we use it with caution.
